3 Reasons why being true to yourself helps you find your passion.

If you can’t find your passion in life, than there is a strong possibility that you are not being true to yourself.

Sometimes that can mean cutting off certain relationships. It can also mean quitting your job or dropping out of college. Sometimes it happens more than once. I speak from my own experience. For me, the process involved getting fired from a job, being scammed by my trusted friends, and almost ending up homeless. Ultimately, I discovered that I was trying to become successful in the wrong areas. I was not happy and I knew something was off. That said, at this point in time I knew I had to figure out how to find my passion. Like all millennials who have questions about life, I turned to google and searched terms such as “how to find your passion in life”,or “how to find your passion and turn it into a career”, etc. None of those search queries really helped me much at all. One thing I knew was that I just spent years becoming somebody else. I spent years straying away from my identity and what I loved to do the most, and I was not following my passions. For many years I had been putting all of my efforts into sleezy sales jobs and ponzi schemes. After so much failure, I decided to rebrand myself. I decided to go back to who I truly am, and rediscover what I loved the most. Cre8tive is one of the results of this process. I’ve always been an artist at heart and I had realized that you cannot bury your true self. If you do,what you loved most about life will fade away.

1.Your passions are part of who you are.

You can’t know what you love unless you who you are. I have been an artist ever since I was a kid. I loved to draw, and I wanted to write as well. Video games, Japanese Anime, and Manga were among my favorite forms of entertainment. As a child, my mother told me that I was meant to be an artist. I knew that I wanted to take my passion and turn it into a career. I’ve always been a right brain thinker and growing up, I realized it’s equally beneficial to be analytical like a left brain thinker. In fact, a perfect balance of the two will allow you to create incredible material. DaVinci was very analytical when it come to his selection of colors for the paintings he produced. Einstein came up with the theory of relativity when sitting at a park on a bright summer day. He shut his eyelids and imagined himself riding the waves of light, he was inspired by the beauty of the world around him. These men allowed their passions to guide their actions. It’s what led them down to their career paths in life. Not only that, but it’s the reason they changed the world in a big way. DaVinci and Einstein remained true to themselves. People who are true to themselves allow themselves to be guided by what they love most in life. They find out what they are passionate about. When someone or something else guides your actions and none of it is anything you enjoy, you slowly become somebody you are not meant to be. Years ago, someone I trusted sucked me into a ponzi scheme. I was at a low point in my life and I was desperately seeking ways to make money doing what I loved most. This friend of mine told me that this “opportunity” could help me accomplish whatever goals I had in life. After spending over a year earning my trust, he later laughed at my dreams of success. He buttered me up so that he could give me verbal beatings for the next 6 years. I had forgone college because of him, I stopped drawing, and I barely ever wrote. I got so brainwashed and became so miserable trying to succeed in a business model that was designed to screw people over. The end result of it all was what I mentioned at the beginning of the article. I lost everything and I convinced myself on a regular basis to be somebody that I’m not. When I came to my senses, I realized that I wasted years of my life on nothing. I felt like a loser and I was completely traumatized. This is a more extreme example of what happens when you do not stay true to yourself and it’s a story I’ll dive a bit deeper into in my next article.

2.You become happier.

You will feel joy when your actions are true to your inner character. That’s a clear indicator that what you are doing when you feel a sense of joy and satisfaction is something that you feel passionate about. I’ve always been my happiest when working on the things that matter to me. Working just for the sake of my survival and well being has never brought me any satisfaction in any way shape or form. In fact, it’s what led to so much failure in my life, and that was when I knew that I was taking the wrong course of action. Your chances of success increase significantly when your work is a source for happiness. It doesn’t matter if the work isn’t paying much in some cases. If you’re reading this article, you’ve probably heard these phrases many times before. “Follow your passion”, “find what makes you happy, and make a living doing it”. This doesn’t just apply to our work, it’s also true with our hobbies, recreation, our friendships, and every other area you can think of. We can never experience joy when we are focused on the things that do not fall in line with who we are. What holds meaning to you is what you ultimately want to make a living out of. When everything you do is authentic with who you are, everything begins to fall in place. Your thoughts become positive, and you begin to form the right relationships in your life. When you are doing the things that bring you no joy, it’s the exact opposite. Life becomes hallow, and you become depressed.

3.You’re focused on what matters most.

Afterall, what matters to you is what will always demand your attention. You pay less attention to obstacles and continue to make progress despite how bad the road may look. I can speak for myself when I say that the only time I am ever able to focus on anything is when they completely demand my attention. Unlike many of you, I have a relatively short attention span. No matter the task at hand, it will all become seamless when you are focused.
